=======================
Splash page, navigation page and logo for a singles "get together" website currently under construction. Client wanted a retro/art deco/modern look to the logo and site and showed me some examples of the style of illustration they wanted.
A trip to the mall to see what the "in" color schemes for fashion currently are and... "ta da"!
All is not as I would have had it, but in commercial work the client likes to have their fingerprint on the final.
The link below shows the first version of the nav page before we decided it was too "Jetsons".
The splash page illo was done w/ the intention of repeating it's elements thru-out the site in various applications.
This is a collage of the splash/nav pages and the logo - it won't appear like this anywhere on the site, but is shown here like this for presentation purposes only.

zanzibar - I did consult w/ the client that designing a site based on fad and current trend may quickly look dated. They said they were aware of that and could update as needed for a fresh look every now and then - can't say I mind since that means repeat business... woo hoo!
Romeo - the color usage was intentional - I tried various color combos and the dark green/black was decided on to contrast w/ the pastels/color intensities of the other elements, and as placed is meant to lead the eye from top left, thru the composition to the bottom right, then up to the group in the BG, then to the mountains which lead back to the start. Character placement/weight/size was also done for the same effect. The black portions are placed like a dot-to-dot guide thru the illo - try it!!!

in the first visual...that man's jacket's colour is blending with the BG, and the Snow on the mountains in the BG is lil bit disturbing the main forms in the foreground. the upper sap green patch and the blue sky looking lil bit odd together. just my opinion.
but i like the illustration style

Shyam - Good comments. As I said in my description, all is not how I would have wanted it - clients like to have "their" say. The green was a client "must have" as it was the green of the MS OS graphic scheme and they wanted it there despite the clash... (?)
The BG is just a frame for presentation here - won't appear on the site so there will be no blending with the man's sweater.

I did see this before so I know what it looks like
I thought it was very nice design but I think it needed some 70 shapes
you know those aqua stars with the balls?
think back to moms kitchen when you were a kid
come on I know you know what shape I am thinking about
ok maybe it would make it to busy looking but I love the design

I'd have to sat "unh-uh" on the '70's touch, tho. While the style needed to evoke retro, it had to be contemporary-progressive, too. A blatant '70's reference would have been frowned upon.
Thanks for the suggestions and comments. U2 Sven.
